Note: Unrefined (cold-pressed) flaxseed oil has a low smoke point and is unsuitable for frying. Refined flaxseed oil has slightly higher thermal tolerance but still <150 °C.

  • Deodorisation (optional): Short-path/steam distillation at 150–180 °C, 1–3 h, with citric acid (0.05%) added post-deodorisation to chelate metals.
  • Packaging: Amber or dark green glass; multilayer PET with UV absorber; foil-lined bag-in-box for bulk.
  • Shelf life monitoring: Track PV, p-anisidine value, hexanal (GC headspace), and sensory panel (fishy/painty score).
